CopenHill. CopenHill is a multifunctional, social, and cultural waste-to-energy plant where waste is transformed into heat and power for all citizens of Copenhagen. The tall, sloped roof doubles as a year-round artificial ski slope, hiking trail, and climbing wall open to the public.
This new modern factory, which manages the waste of 550,000 Danish households and 45,000 businesses, can heat around 160,000 homes and electricity for more than 60,000 hours without emitting CO2. CopenHill, also known as Amager Bakke, is a Copenhagen-based heat and waste-to-power plant. It's also a recreational center that now sports an artificial ski slope -- a real draw in flat Denmark. Amager Bakke, or CopenHill, as it’s been dubbed, is a massive, million-square-foot waste-to-energy plant—which just happens to have a ski slope on its roof. Designed by BIG (Bjarke Ingels Group), SLA, AKT, Lüchinger+Meyer, MOE, and Rambøll, CopenHill is a waste-to-energy plant crowned by an active ski slope, hiking trail, and climbing wall.
Spectacular and innovative in the true sense of the words.
